The ultra-lightweight Gingko Bulles rattan table and armchair set
Lauriane Beaunier and Aurélien Veyrat drew their inspiration from Japanese design of the 1970s, which was all about precision and lightness, reducing the use of materials to the bare essentials. This eco-design approach, which at the time was guided more by aesthetic considerations than economic concerns, is now proving to be astonishingly modern. It all starts with the selection of the material. Of the 300 varieties of rattan available, ‘tohiti’ was chosen. It makes up for its small diameter with exceptional fibre density. Then came the play of curves, interlacing and volutes, skilfully arranged by the designer to create a poetic silhouette, but also to square, arch and reinforce the construction. True to the original Japanese spirit, our designers have finally given this ensemble compact dimensions, fully in line with European standards.
