The ORCHID EDITION project

ORCHID EDITION is a new project initiated by the Ledi-Krol family, who have been promoting rattan furniture under the KOK MAISON brand since 1920, and now for 4 generations, with the arrival of Marion LEDI.

ORCHID EDITION offers a sophisticated and elegant universe that inaugurates an innovative vision of this material. Our aim is to restore the material to its rightful place by honouring the skills of master rattan-makers, and exploiting the aesthetics and richness that are so special about this material. But above all, with all the passion that drives us, we want to go beyond the codes of traditional rattan and bring it firmly into contemporary design.

"During my many trips to Indonesia, I've always been fascinated by the rattan production workshops: the dexterity of the craftsmen who assemble the pre-cut rattan canes with precision, the expertise in choosing the different varieties of rattan to make a model, the smell of the cane being put in a kiln before being bent. The exotic image of rattan in our countries does not reflect the true expertise behind the manufacture of quality furniture", explains co-founder Tina Ledi.

ORCHID EDITION came up with the idea of confronting young designers with these ancestral techniques, the flexibility characteristic of rattan, and the whole graphic repertoire it offers (arches, canework, weaving, etc.). This unprecedented collaboration between 4 French design studios - AC/AL studio, At-Once, Guillaume Delvigne and Jean-Michel Policar - resulted in the first sketches and then the final models, which reflect the personality of each designer, while having a 'little-ORCHID-family-air'.

"I chose the models I wanted to publish with ORCHID EDITION because I find them both beautiful and useful, light and strong. They give off an impression of déjà-vu, using the codes of traditional rattan furniture, but the construction details make them completely contemporary. Their discreet design allows them to blend into any decor, adding warmth and softness. We believe they will become classics that will stand the test of time and pass the test of fashion. "Tina Ledi
