Born in Saint-Nazaire in 1979, Guillaume Delvigne studied at the Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique and the Politecnico di Milano. After graduating in 2002, he began his career in Milan at the agency of George J. Sowden, co-founder of the legendary Memphis movement. At the same time, he began designing his own objects at a very early stage, in particular porcelain for the Italian publisher Industreal. In 2004 he moved to Paris and worked on industrial design projects for several years with renowned designers such as RADI Designers, Delo Lindo, Marc Newson, Elium Studio and Cédric Ragot.
In 2011, he opened his own studio, inaugurated his first solo exhibition at ToolsGalerie and won the Grand Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris. Today, he is working on a number of projects for leading French fashion houses such as Givenchy, Hermès, Cristal de Sèvres, Habitat and Tefal. He also works internationally in the field of furniture with publishers such as Fabbian and Karakter, as well as for young French design houses such as La Chance, Hartô and Eno. His designs are regularly shown at exhibitions in France and abroad. Some of his creations have won awards or are part of permanent collections.
For Orchid Edition, he has designed the HUBLOT armchair, the SILLON chair, the ONDE mirror and the CORRIDOR coffee tables. His designs combine traditional rattan techniques with highly contemporary forms.
‘We were immediately attracted to Guillaume Delvigne's work because we sensed a desire to build furniture in rattan and nothing but rattan. Guillaume has used all the by-products made from rattan cane: woven core like the baskets, marquetry for flat surfaces reminiscent of floor mats, and so on. In-depth study of traditional models has enabled us to create solid structures with innovative shapes from the outset.’ Tina Ledi
